What do we cover?

Things that blow your mind but are rooted in data and science. All things economics, data, tech, cool maps, etc.

We do a daily email newsletter where we recap the data that’s going viral on the internet.

Who am I?

Nobody, really. A guy who used to bore his friends by spamming the group chats with the data. Eventually, I realized that my friends were not particularly interested in the data. Oftentimes, my data would not receive even a single thumbs up reaction.

I thought, “maybe I’ll start posting to IG and someone will be a bit more appreciative. At the very least, at least I will have all my favorite data saved in one place.”

I posted to the void for 2 years. Almost zero likes.

So how did I get these 400k followers?

One day, I decided to try paying to boost some posts to nerds in India and the Philippines. I picked those countries because the ads are cheaper and people speak english there.

It worked pretty well. I was able to get to about 12k followers for like few hundred bucks.

I spent the next couple years posting to my small army of data-loving Indians and Filipinos (mostly Indians). It was nice, but the posts usually only did well if it was a map of India.

Then, suddenly and without warning, the IG algo started showing my posts to new people. Tens of thousands of new people.

Followers started pouring in. Famous people too.

Yada yada.

Today, it’s a pretty giant IG account. It has 400k followers and reaches 20M+ people per month. And now, I’m trying to expand to Substack (and get that bread).

PS I’m still just getting started here and blogging is not my usual medium, so plz don’t be too judgy. 🙏
