Interesting, but should be noted that a good chunk of the decrease in GDP is kinda due a trick in the way we calculate GDP.
Here’s the equation for GDP:
GDP = Consumption + Investment + Government Spending + Exports - Imports
Last quarter, there was a huge increase in imports as companies stocked up on goods before the tariffs were implemented.
You can see in the equation that, if imports are abnormally high, it makes GDP look abnormally low.
